Introduction
The Ergo plant requires a Shift Electrician Artisan who will be responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable and efficient operation of electrical systems and equipment within the metallurgical plant. The incumbent performs planned preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs, fault finding, installation and commissioning of electrical equipment to maximise plant availability and minimise downtime. The role requires compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), Company policies, engineering standards and safe work procedures while providing technical support to production to achieve operational targets.
Job description

  • Perform planned preventative, predictive and breakdown maintenance on electrical equipment throughout the metallurgical gold processing plant.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults on motors, pumps, conveyors, crushers, screens, thickeners, agitators, elution circuits, carbon handling equipment and other fixed plant machinery.
  • Maintain, test and commission low- and medium-voltage electrical systems, switchgear, motor control centres (MCCs), transformers and distribution networks.
  • Carry out fault finding and maintenance on PLCs, instrumentation interfaces, variable speed drives (VSDs) and automated process control systems.
  • Perform safe switching, isolation and restoration of electrical equipment in accordance with Company procedures and ORHVS requirements.
  • Install new electrical equipment, cables, control panels and associated electrical infrastructure as required.
  • Conduct routine inspections of electrical installations and identify defects before they result in equipment failure or production losses.
  • Apply Lock-Out, Tag-Out and Test (LOTOTO) procedures before commencing maintenance activities.
  • Respond promptly to plant breakdowns to restore equipment and minimise production downtime.
  • Complete maintenance job cards, inspection reports and statutory documentation accurately and within prescribed timeframes.
  • Assist in investigating equipment failures, identifying root causes and implementing corrective and preventative actions.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in substations and in the plant.
  • Ensure that electrical tools, testing instruments and specialised equipment are maintained, calibrated and used safely.
  • Participate in standby duties, shift work and emergency call-outs to support continuous plant operations.
  • Participate in risk assessments, planned task observations, safety meetings, toolbox talks and incident investigations.
  • Perform any other reasonable duties assigned by the Engineering Foreman or Engineering Manager.

Minimum requirements

  • Grade 12 or N2 Certificate with relevant subjects: Mathematics, Engineering Science, and Electrical Trade Theory.
  • 2–3 years of experience as a qualified electrician, preferably in a mining or works.
  • A recognized Trade Test Certificate (Section 13 or Section 26D)
  • Must have completed a 3-year full apprenticeship/ learnership progamme with a full Statement of Results, SOR.
  • Clear criminal record.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • A mobile telephone to be contactable when required.
  • Own transport and residing within 30 km radius from Ergo Operations.
