Key Responsibilities:
Supervise and control boilermakers and assistants in accordance with MHSA, regulations, COPs, and site-specific procedures.
Ensure compliance with Section 8 of the MHSA by enforcing safe working practices and maintaining a safe working environment.
Conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses (JHAs), and toolbox talks prior to task execution.
Plan, allocate, and oversee maintenance, breakdown, and shutdown activities to minimise production losses.
Ensure all fabrication, welding, and repair work meets company standards and legal compliance requirements.
Inspect completed work and take reasonable measures to prevent unsafe acts or conditions (MHSA Section 22 responsibilities).
Coordinate with engineering, production, and contractors to ensure effective plant maintenance.
Ensure correct use, care, and inspection of tools, equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports, and legal documentation as required.
- Identify training needs and ensure subordinates are competent, authorised, and medically fit for assigned tasks.
Minimum requirements
Boilermaking Section 13 or 26D Trade Test Certificate or SAQA verified equivalent..
- Grade 12 or SAQA verified equivalent.
Minimum 10 years’ boilermaker experience in a mining or metallurgical plant environment.
At least 5 years’ experience in a supervisory or foreman role.
Proven knowledge of MHSA, risk management processes, and safe work procedures.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
Medically fit for work in a mining environment.
- Valid Driver’s License
- Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Resides within 30 km radius to Ergo Operations
Advantageous:
Supervisory or management development training.
- Diploma or N4-N6 would be an added advantage.
Experience in gold processing plants, shutdown planning, and contractor management.
Clear criminal record.
